About Erika
Welcome to my profile. I am a child and adolescent psychotherapist. Over the last 7 years I’ve worked with children, adolescents and their families offering both short-term and long-term evidence based therapeutic interventions. I support young people who struggle with depression, anxiety, self-harm, gender identity issues, trauma, or neuro-developmental conditions. I’ve worked with adopted and fostered children and families. Often, I work with parents alone to help them understand what might be going on for their child, and within their
parent-child relationship.
The trajectory of a healthy childhood development can get derailed for various reasons; my aim is to help children and young people to put into words, to understand and process their difficulties within safe and containing therapeutic relationship. Time and again I’ve learned that paying close and undivided attention to a young person’s worries, fears or confusion is a very powerful and effective way to help them.
My main theoretical background is psychoanalysis – often referred to as psychodynamic approach. I also draw on teachings of attachment theory, child development, neuroscience and early brain development, and current research in child and adolescent mental health.
As a psychotherapist and a person with lived experience, I believe that our relationships are the most important resource in our lives that deserve lifelong investment and attention. In my work I place emphasis on cultivating curiosity, appreciation and growth in this respect – it has been a privilege to observe young minds develop and grow.
My work in NHS CAMHS [child and adolescent mental health service] has provided me with a substantial experience working with professional networks around families which allows me to consider and to support the complex ‘unseen’ dynamics that children’s and young people’s lives and relationships inevitably exist in.
I’ve experience of teaching, offering consultations and running supervision groups for colleagues from other professional backgrounds. I very much enjoy sharing ideas and working with professionals from other disciplines such as Perinatal Care, Early Years,
Education or Social Care
United Kingdom is my adoptive country – as such I have appreciation and respect toward different cultural perspectives families I meet and work with bring into our work. I completed a comprehensive clinical training at a doctoral level at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, London. I am a fully registered member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
Please get in touch to find out how we might work together. I offer in person session from The Couch on Saturday mornings.
Fees:
Initial exploratory conversation: 30 mins free of charge
In-person individual work young people or parent work: 50min session £100
Online work available: 50min session £100
